12-Step Immersion

12-Step-page

Addiction is a neurobiological disease that affects the body, mind, and spirit. Like many other chronic diseases, it is progressive. Addiction, if left untreated, can be fatal. But there is hope. Recovery, healing, and a life of purpose are possible.

Ongoing 12-Step practice and regular participation in 12-Step groups can provide the direction and support needed for lasting sobriety. Available for people with addiction as well as their loved ones, these groups have provided hope and guidance to millions. The 12-Step program is designed to help its members develop a relationship with a Higher Power and learn to live with honesty and faith. 12-Step fellowships lead the way to sober, healthy living.

Integrated Clinical, Medical, and Spiritual Services

At Origins Recovery Center, we seamlessly integrate cutting-edge, evidence-based clinical and medical care within the time-honored 12-Step paradigm. We understand that quality addiction treatment addresses all aspects of wellness, including the spiritual one. The pathways laid down by the 12-Steps can rewire our brain and renew our purpose. By connecting with a deeper sense of meaning, people pursuing recovery can positively change their lives and the lives of those around them.

When a person engages in 12-Step practice, including obtaining a sponsor and sponsoring others, recovery is about more than just “relapse prevention” – it is a clear path to a happy, joyous, and free life. In our program, we use the 12-Steps as a gateway to long-term recovery. By focusing attention on clearly outlined 12-Step study and practice, we set our patients up for long-term success.

We support this paradigm because:

  • Those who actively work the 12-Steps learn to receive as well as offer support
  • 12-Step support is a vital foundation for healthy sobriety
  • 12-Step fellowships provide sober camaraderie
  • 12-Step support provides a path to recovery for family members through programs such as Alateen, Al-Anon, and Adult Children of Alcoholics

12-Step Practice and Origins’ Workbooks

A passionate emphasis on 12-Step practice is one of several key programmatic features that sets Origins Recovery Center’s program apart from other addiction treatment providers. Our patients do more than simply learn about the 12-Step fellowship; they have an authentic, personal experience with the Steps themselves.

As treatment providers, we know that:

  • Engagement in the 12-Steps’ spiritual program of action leads to longterm recovery
  • The 12-Steps are meant to be practiced and studied, not simply read
  • 12-Step fellowships offer freedom from the powerlessness of addiction or alcoholism
  • 12-Step practice continually renews the recovery journey

Origins team has developed an in-depth 12-Step curriculum that features not only small groups, but our own 12-Step Workbooks. These workbooks walk each patient through the 12-Step principles in an immersive and engaging way. Our team brings the “Big Book” to life in a way that motivates and empowers our patients to stay sober.

A Spiritual Program, Not a Religious One

The 12-Steps are a spiritual program of action, not a religious one. Through our one-on-one engagement with patients, we teach each person how to connect with a Higher Power of their own understanding. Our carefully crafted curriculum guides patients toward spiritual principles such as willingness, honesty, and open-mindedness. Through group and individual sessions, we teach each man in our care to engage in spiritual practices (such as meditation and mindfulness training) that are essential components of 12-Step programming. Many people struggle with the concept of God or a Higher Power before they come to Origins Recovery Center. You need not consider yourself a religious person to find fulfillment in 12-Step recovery.

Abstinence-Based Recovery

To achieve remission from alcoholism or addiction, complete withdrawal of all mind-altering substances is often necessary. Abstinence-based recovery teaches us how to live free of these substances in order to cope with everyday ups and downs. The 12-Steps are an abstinence-based program that provides ongoing support to anyone hoping to live a sober life.

Support for the Entire Family

12-Step recovery is available for the entire family, as well. There are several groups based on this philosophy, some of which focus on the person with addiction and others that guide families in their own journey of recovery.

Alcoholics Anonymous is the most widely available 12-Step program, and meetings can be found in virtually every city nationwide. Our Alumni Care Team provides recommendations for solution-based meetings with a solid foundation of support. At Origins, we familiarize our patients with 12-Step meetings during their time with us and connect them with 12-Step resources in their own communities.
