We Need You

We see people every day who are living in a “recovered state.” They are happy, joyous, and free, helping other people and enjoying life. They are changing the world one person at a time. They find real happiness by using their willpower to align themselves with God’s will. They do this by taking the next right action, regardless of what they think, feel, or believe.

And then we see the others who are struggling and fighting one day at a time to stay strong.

We see them losing the battle. We have watched them die. We know the pain and suffering created by their disease, not only for themselves but for their families, employers, and others who care about them.

The Big Book says that we have ceased fighting anything or anyone.

Is the difference between these two sets of people that some are doing the actual work that is our spiritual program of action while some are not doing the work?

You can candy coat all of this if you want to, but the fact is that a real alcoholic or addict needs a spiritual awakening — a complete psychic change — to survive. The only way we experience this is through working all the way through to Step Twelve: “Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.”

Watering down the message to make it attractive will not help.

Telling people what our sponsor said will not help. Slinging slogans and telling people to “keep coming back” will not help. Giving people our opinion will not help.

Welcoming newcomers with an adequate presentation of the program, taking them through the book and the work, one on one will change the world. When we connect with the Creator, everything changes. Nothing else works!!

If you are doing this, then THANK YOU! If you are not, we NEED you.

“Abandon yourself to God as you understand God. Admit your faults to Him and your fellows. Clear away the wreckage of your past. Give freely of what you find, and join us,” from the Big Book, Page 164.

Peace,

Jerry
