Fun Activities to Keep You Healthy in Recovery

May 20, 2022

As someone recovering from substance use disorder, it can be hard to know what activities to do that are both fun and recovery-friendly. When you are in recovery, it is important to find ways to have fun and enjoy life. This is a crucial part of the healing process. If you are struggling to find things to do that make you happy, we have some ideas for you! In this blog post, we will discuss some fun activities that can help keep you healthy and having fun in recovery.

There are many ways to have fun while in recovery.

Whatever it may be, it’s important that you do something enjoyable so as not to get bored or lonely during this time of healing!

The first way to have fun in recovery is by playing sports with friends. This could be anything from basketball to football or dodgeball to paintball. You might not think so, but there really are many options out there when it comes down to what sport you want to play. Just make sure to find friends that you can trust and have fun with. This is a great way to blow off some steam, get some exercise, and make new friends in the process!

Another great way to have fun while in recovery is by going out on date nights or spending time together with your family at home.

This could be anything from cooking a meal together to watching movies together. Doing so could also be a great way to reconnect with your partner or spouse and rebuild those bonds that may have been damaged during addiction.

Doing things you enjoy can be another way to have fun while in recovery.

This could be anything from reading books, painting, hiking, or biking. The key is finding something that makes you happy and sticking with it. You may have let activities you enjoy slip by the wayside during active addiction. This could be your opportunity to remember what you like and get reengaged with that activity.

A few other recovery friendly activities:

  • Try yoga or meditation
  • Take a class or course
  • Volunteer
  • Go camping
  • Visit a local zoo or aquarium
  • Visit a museum or art gallery
  • Host a game night
  • Try an escape room

At first, it may feel like you’ll never have fun while in recovery, but as you start trying new things or reengaging in things you once enjoyed, you’ll see that fun is still very possible. And without substances dulling your senses, you may even find that you laugh a little harder and smile a little wider while engaging in activities you enjoy.
